ALL SCHOOL ASSEMBLY AND EARTH DAY FREEZE DANCE

The 4th graders from THE WOODS classroom  participated in an all-school morning assembly sharing facts about Earth Day and what kids can do to help protect Earth. Here's what the students shared at that assembly:

In  Ms. Agee’s  Class, we are learning how many of our day-to-day activities actually take a toll on our planet Earth. You might be interested to know that we all have a carbon footprint. Your carbon footprint represents the total amount of carbon dioxide you create.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a type of greenhouse gas that scientists believe makes the earth warmer. Reducing your carbon footprint benefits the earth. Carbon dioxide is created when you use energy produced by fossil fuels such as coal, oil, or natural gas. Power plants, factories, heaters, and automobiles produce carbon dioxide.

The amount of trash you put out at the curb every week creates carbon dioxide as well from the garbage trucks that come to pick it up and

the processing it goes through at the dump. Reducing your trash can reduce your carbon footprint. Every time you drive in a car or use electricity you add to your carbon footprint.

There are many ways YOU can make a difference and reduce your carbon footprint. Here are a few things you can do:

  • Turn off electronics, if you aren't using them.

  • Turn off the water, while you are brushing your teeth.

  • Take showers instead of baths.

  • Recycle by shopping at thrift stores.

  • Use reusable grocery bags.

                      .

The students also led an Earth Day Freeze Dance with the 500 students at the assembly!
